BROADBAND COMMUNITIES SUMMIT 2018 63 Show Guide Sponsor Jane Smith Patterson Partner Broadband Catalysts Patterson, Brian Rathbone and Deborah Watts have created a new LLP, Broadband Catalysts, to promote broadband in rural and low-income urban areas. Patterson previously served as executive director of the first Rural Internet Access Authority in the United States; was executive director of the e-NC Authority, formerly the RIAA, an organization bringing affordable high-speed internet access to North Carolina, particularly in rural areas; and worked for Governor Jim Hunt (North Carolina) through his four terms in office. Patterson graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has completed post-graduate degree work at North Carolina State University and additional studies at Harvard University. She serves on a number of boards for nonprofit organizations, including the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation and the Coalition for Local Internet Choice (CLIC). The Hon. Beverly Perdue Former Governor, State of North Carolina Chair, digiLEARN Perdue's administration was dedicated to creating jobs; protecting and strengthening education, accountability and transparency; and shepherding the state through the worst economic climate since the Great Depression. She invested in innovative education technology and created public-private partnerships to fully integrate technology into the state's education system. North Carolina's statewide broadband education network for public schools, universities and community colleges is recognized as a national model because North Carolina school districts collectively use six times the bandwidth they did more than five years ago while spending the same. She also created the state's first virtual public school. DigiLEARN: Digital Learning Institute is a nonprofit institution aimed at accelerating digital learning at all ages. The digiLEARN board is nonpartisan and comprises former governors, state legislators and national digital learning experts. Perdue was a resident fellow at the Harvard University Kennedy School Institute of Politics and served as a distinguished visiting fellow at Duke University. Brad Petersen Vice President Petersen joined Ditaro, a multifamily broadband solution provider serving almost 10,000 units nationwide, in early 2017 to oversee and facilitate the company's rapid nationwide expansion. His extensive experience at Intel and in growing several mid-cap companies has been valuable as he focuses the Ditaro strategy on delivering long-term value for each owner/operator while enhancing the overall resident experience. Petersen actively promotes the benefits of installing high-speed managed Wi-Fi networks and other connectivity solutions to multifamily owners, operators and residents.
