42 BROADBAND COMMUNITIES SUMMIT 2018 Show Guide Sponsor SPEAKERS Nathan Davis Ferry County, Vice Chairman and County Commissioner State of Washington Davis was elected commissioner at the same time the local gold mine was closing and the local economy was declining. His leadership and collaboration with the mine, the Washington State Department of Commerce and Washington State University led to a social exit strategy that laid the foundation for business revitalization. Currently, he devotes his time to a technology project, Ferry County Sunrise, designed to integrate with the local economic development center to recruit and retain businesses. He has collaborated with other counties to study and develop a potential demonstration network using wireless broadband opportunities. The plan is to illustrate what access to broadband in difficult and challenging terrain can do. Rebecca Frost Davis Director, Instructional and Emerging Technology St. Edward's University Davis focuses on the intersection of digital pedagogy and liberal education. She is a co-editor of Digital Pedagogy in the Humanities: Concepts, Models, and Experiments, an open-access, curated collection of downloadable, reusable, remixable pedagogical resources for humanities scholars. At the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education, she led an initiative to develop digital humanities at liberal arts colleges. Recent articles include Pedagogy and Learning in a Digital Ecosystem and Redefining Learning Places in the Emerging Digital Ecosystem. Davis was a member of the digital working group for AAC&U's General Education Maps and Markers project, has served on the faculty of the AAC&U Institute for Integrative Learning and Signature Work, and speaks often on digital pedagogy, liberal education and intercampus collaboration. Doug Dawson President CCG Consulting Dawson has worked in the telecom industry since 1978 and has both a consulting and an operational background. He and CCG specialize in helping clients launch new broadband markets, develop new products, and finance new ventures. CCG, the largest telecom consulting firm in the country in terms of clients, has a varied telecommunications practice and helps clients with engineering, regulatory, operation and planning issues. Dawson also writes the daily blog, which covers a wide range of topics for broadband and related subjects. Jose (Joe) De Leon General Field Representative Rural Development, Rural Utilities Services, USDA De Leon, an electrical engineer, began his career with RUS almost 28 years ago. He worked at the Washington, D.C., office for a little more than 11 years and has been a general field representative in Texas since then. Since 2010, his service area has been awarded approximately $196,000,000 across the telecom programs. De Leon helps potential applicants, awardees, and borrowers meet the requirements of programs RUS offers and administers. He also provides post-award assistance in carrying out projects and documenting the outcomes of projects for compliance purposes.
