UC2B is an intergovernmental consortium of the University of Illinois and the cities of Urbana and Champaign dedicated to building and operating an open- access fber-optic broadband network throughout the Champaign- Urbana area. This collaborative efort is governed by a Policy Committee consisting of representatives from the three consortium member agencies: the University of Illinois, the City of Champaign, and the City of Urbana. Community members also sit on the UC2B Policy Committee. Workshop #4: 2:00-4:00pm CONNECT ED & DISTANCE EDUCATION Workshop Leader: Jane Patterson – President, The View Forward Connecting schools to high speed broadband has enabled digital education and digital administrative operations in North Carolina – frst state in the country to create a digital educational network for its schools, community colleges, four-year colleges and universities. The network features access to a statewide cloud for administrative and educational operations. This workshop will provide lessons from people who have connected schools to a statewide broadband platform. Learn from them about fnancing, cloud services initiation, teacher training, student assessment, statewide telehealth networks and technology-based economic development initiatives. Workshop #5: 4:00-6:00pm GIGABIT TO THE MDU Workshop Leader: Richard Holtz – CEO, InfniSys Gigabit Internet to a multifamily building is still rare. But there can be little doubt the momentum is increasing. Over the past year there's been powerful evidence that certain MDU customers crave gigabit speeds. This is especially true of tech-savvy customers such as students and technology company employees. This workshop starts with the basics, defning "gigabit" to the property and to the user, over networks with wired and wireless connections to devices, and on to the number of simultaneous IP sessions allowed per user. It goes on to detail business models (Retail Subscriber, Bulk, Single Service, Multi Service) and bandwidth and reliability needs for email, surfng, games, and video streaming. Attendees will be able to ask detailed questions of representatives from Ruckus, Campus Connect, Google, CondoInternet, Tellabs, and Corning. Workshop #6: 4:00-6:00pm INTRO TO FIBER-TO-THE- USER NETWORKS, FTTH & FTTB Workshop Leader: Larry Johnson – Founder & President, The Light Brigade Nervous about understanding it all? This entertaining and stimulating free workshop covering the basics for public ofcials and executives will be led by the president and founder of leading training and education frm The Light Brigade.
