82 | BROADBAND COMMUNITIES | www.broadbandcommunities.com | OCTOBER 2014 R eports of the death of print, like that of Mark Twain, have been greatly exaggerated. Two decades after the commercial Internet launched and obituaries for print publishing were written, readers still value paper – even when they're reading about the Internet. Because BroadBand Communities readers tell us they read the magazine cover to cover and save their print copies, we print seven issues per year, along with special publications, such as our popular fber-to-the-home primer. Te primer, published as a magazine insert and as a stand-alone publication, educates local ofcials and citizens about the benefts of fber broadband. Tis year, two new FTTH networks – a private venture in California and a public-private partnership in Minnesota – are starting up after their leaders generated local interest and support through wide distribution of the primer. Meanwhile, BroadBand C ommunities is expanding its digital presence. Many readers subscribe to the digital edition as well as to print. Both editions are free to qualifed subscribers. Te digital edition parallels the print edition but often contains bonus information as well. Occasionally, we publish digital-only editions. Subscribers receive email alerts when each new digital edition is published and can click on the emailed links to access the publication. Te full magazine and individual articles are also available online in PDF format, and the featured articles shown in the rotating graphic on our home page are available in HTML format as well. Readers want to stay on top of breaking news about broadband trends, new technologies and fber-to-the-home Broadband Communities In Print and Online deployments, so we publish this news online daily. You'll fnd timely news items on bbcmag.com under "News & Views" and "Fiber Deployment Roundup." Our Twitter feed @bbcmag provides news alerts and commentary. Online resources for broadband deployers include our FTTH deployment database (www. fberville.com), fnancial tools (www. FTTHAnalyzer.com) international home page (www.ftthcentral.com) and buyers guide (www.bbcmag.com/ buyersguide).
