By Craig Steen / Clear2there F ranklin Telephone Company (FTC) and its parent company, Telapex, have a long history of delivering leading-edge technology to rural communities throughout Mississippi. With more than 90 percent broadband coverage throughout its service area, FTC is well positioned to deliver technology that enables residential and business subscribers to remotely manage and monitor homes and businesses or keep tabs on a family member from any Internet-connected device. Early deployments of FTC's smart-premises solutions included the Franklin County School District and Franklin County Memorial Hospital. Both the school district and the hospital were looking to implement surveillance and access control capabilities that would enable administrators to monitor events inside and outside their respective facilities and manage access to buildings and sensitive areas. Common concerns were for a solution that enabled remote access to locks and cameras from mobile devices, secure recording and retrieval of video, and the ability to track and log building access. Franklin Telephone conferred with both organizations, took stock of the needs of each and proposed a customized, advanced system that would not only enhance the security and safety in the facilities but also let each organization take advantage of mobile technology to improve the efciency and efectiveness of controlling access and monitoring the properties from any location. Franklin Telephone, in turn, partnered with Clear2there, a provider of advanced video surveillance, smart-home, smart-business, and smart-farm applications as well as M2M solutions for service providers and enterprises. Using the Viewbiquity Cloud Application Suite (VCAS) platform from Clear2there, FTC developed a customized solution for each building that addressed the concerns and needs identifed. FRANKLIN COUNTY SCHOOLS For the Franklin County School District, which serves some 1,500 students in grades K through 12, providing a safe, secure school environment is one of the highest priorities. "A fundamental part of assuring the success of our students is to provide an environment in which they can fourish," says Ray Carlock, Find out at the Summit how new services such as security are changing the business case for fber.
